Tracing Your Ballycastle & Antrim Ancestry

A lot of visitors to this coast are here looking for family roots, not just scenery. A few real starting points:

• PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland) — the official archive, holding church records, census material, wills, and much more.
• GRONI (General Register Office Northern Ireland) — civil birth, marriage, and death records registered in Northern Ireland.
• The Glens of Antrim Historical Society — founded in 1965, publishing a journal, The Glynns, since 1975, with a strong focus on families and local history specific to this part of the coast.

Parish registers, will calendars, and freeholder records for County Antrim are also increasingly digitised and searchable online — a good starting point before planning a visit to any of the in-person archives.
